If you need a reminder that there’s more to Singapore than squeaky-clean sidewalks and killer street food, consider what’s brewing in the new year. The Lion City, which is celebrating 50 years of independence in 2015, flexes its design muscles with the new Singapore Sports Hub and the National Gallery, a sprawling 688,890-square-foot ode to contemporary Southeast Asian art housed in the former City Hall and Supreme Court. After dark, embark on a bar crawl to sample the handiwork of the city-state’s mixology wizards. Warm up at favorites like speakeasy-style 28 Hong Kong Street and Tippling Club, before heading to the newly opened D. Bespoke for custom-crafted libations or to secretive, subterranean Operation Dagger, where Luke Whearty’s potent concoctions are laced with everything from sous vide infusions to electric-blue butterfly pea flowers. —Diana Hubbell
