Miami, which gets more worldly with each passing year, made ourlist of places for 2014—and that momentum continues to grow, notably in Mid-Beach. A new batch of luxury hotels is burnishing this corridor just north of South Beach, between 23rd Street and the iconic Fontainebleau. The biggest news is the upcoming Faena complex, which will include an arts center by architect Rem Koolhaas and residences by Foster & Partners, as well as the Saxony hotel from a team that includes creative director Baz Luhrmann. It will join recent arrivals like the pioneeringMetropolitan by Como (early 2014); the Thompson took over a 1940s Art Deco building in fall 2014, followed by Ian Schrager’sEdition in the former Seville Hotel. This being Miami, the neighborhood is slowly being colonized by hip bars and sceney restaurants, including The Broken Shaker (recently named one of the World’s 50 Best Bars) and new restaurants from Tom Colicchio, Michael Mina, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and local girl Michelle Bernstein. —Carla Torres, T+L’s Miami Local Expert
