Restoration opportunity: Bedlay Castle
Bedlay Castle, situated in the heart of Central Scotland, offers a unique restoration opportunity.

A former defensive castle, Bedlay Castle is situated between Chryston and Moodiesburn in North Lanarkshire, originally formed part of the larger Bedlay and Mollins Estate, which formed part of the possession of the Cathedral Church of Glasgow.
It was built by Robert Boyd, the 4th Lord Boyd of Kilmarnock in the 16th century. The Boyds owned the castle until 1642, when it was sold to James Robertson, who later became Lord Bedlay. The Robertons extended the castle, and owned it until 1786.
Country houses for sale in Scotland
Bedlay Castle now requires complete refurbishment to restore it to its former glory.
The extensive accommodation comprises large barrel vaulted store rooms, cellars and two smaller larders as well as the main kitchen and living room on the ground floor. The master bedroom is situated on the first floor, where an attractive drawing room, gallery and a large dining room can also be found. A further 5 bedrooms are split across the second and third floors. The towers provide two circular rooms across the ground, first and second floors.
The property is situated in 9.76 acres of grounds and woodlands which gives Bedlay Castle a wonderful feeling of seclusion and privacy. These are also available for sale either as a whole or in two lots.
Bedlay Castle is well located in the heart of Central Scotland: Glasgow is situated approximately 9 miles to the south west and offers an excellent range of amenities including internationally renowned shopping facilities, a range of first class restaurants, galleries, clubs and theatres.

The property benefits from direct access onto the northbound A80 providing access to Stirling, Edinburgh and Perth via the M9 and A9, with the M80 and M74 providing access to Glasgow and the South. Glasgow Airport is 18 miles to the west, and Edinburgh Airport 35 miles to the east, both of which offer a wide range of domestic and international flights.
Duncan Barrie, handling the sale for CKD Galbraith, said: “The sale of Bedlay Castle makes owning a beautiful Scottish castle an affordable reality for many. However the scale of the restoration work required is fairly extensive but would be well worth the investment of time and finance. The property is deceptively close to the city of Glasgow, and there is direct access on to the A80 to Stirling, Edinburgh and Perth via the M9 and A9; yet the mixture of pasture land and amenity woodland surrounding Bedlay gives a considerable element of seclusion and privacy.”
Offers over £500,000 for Bedlay Castle. Offers over £200,000 for the land at Bedlay Estate (whole lot). For further information please contact CKD Galbraith on 01786 434 600.
