Gentleman’s residence near Moreton-in-Marsh
Beautifully converted Cotswolds period property

Wolford Lodge is an exceptional country house which has been skillfully restored and extended to provide an historic property with modern comforts located near Moreton-in-Marsh in The Cotswolds. The core of the house dates from the 19th century, although much of the construction was carried out in the 1990s.
Inside, the property still retains a number of period features including gothic arched stone mullioned windows, flagstone or oak flooring and a wide stone cantilevered staircase. The large drawing room has two areas: the first with a stone-flagged floor and a baronial fireaplce and a lighter area with polished oak floor, a window seat and delightful views across the garden to the woodland beyond.
The dining room also has a stone-flagged floor and a fascinating fireplace flanked by moulded columns with a wood-burning stove. The large kitchen/breakfast room comes with an oil-fired Rayburn and a traditional larder, while the understairs storage features a Victorian prison door with a spy flap.
Upstairs, the huge master bedroom suite features a polished oak floor and French windows which lead out to an attractive balcony. There are two further bedrooms and a family bathroom; a secret staircase leads from bedroom two to the sheltered rooftop deck which offers wonderful views.
The accommodation in total comprises: entrance, cloakroom, drawing room, dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, larder, master bedroom suite and two further bedrooms, plus the family bathroom.
Outside, the stone-built coach house has two car ports and two historic cast-iron loose boxes. To the rear is a tack room. The wine cellar is reached through the garage, while steps lead up to the studio flat which has been beautifully built.
The gardens extend to around an acre and include a lawn and a stone terrace with ornamental pool and fountains. The side garden reaches up to the boundary ha-ha; on the other side of the house lies to box hedged parterre and herb garden. An open-fronted summer house is built around a tree while an enclosed orchard has various fruit and ornamental trees and a small informal wooded area.
