‘A Cotswold stage awaiting the star turn’ is Knight Frank‘s description of the spectacular 379-acre estate setting of The Ridge at Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, which has planning consent for the construction of a new, 33,000sq ft country mansion designed by Yiangou Architects—the first ‘stately home’ built in Britain in more than a century.
The classical neo-Georgian house will have six reception rooms, a Harry Potter-style ‘grand hall’, 11 en-suite bedrooms, an indoor swimming-pool and leisure complex, a cinema, four staff and guest flats, a garage courtyard and a stable yard, and will replace the three existing converted Cotswold stone coach houses.
Knight Frank (020-7629 8171) quote a guide price of £6million. (NB This was originally published as £6m-£10m, which we’ve now corrected).
Cirencester-based Yiangou Architects says: ‘This is a rare opportunity to celebrate traditional architecture.’
Ran Morgan of The Buying Solution (01488 657912) comments: ‘This house has a fantastic design by the renowned architect Peter Yiangou. It will be one of the biggest houses to be built in the Cotswolds in the past 100 years, and, together with the Kiddington estate, will provide a good indicator of the health of the top end of the market.’
