Rafael Nadal wins Wimbledon
Rafael Nadal beats Roger Federer to win his first Wimbledon title after a dramatic match
Rafael Nadal has won his first Wimbledon title after a dramatic four-hour, 48min match against Swiss star Roger Federer.
Nadal won the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7, which started at 2.35pm and, due to rain interruptions, ended at 9.15pm.
Nadal, a Spaniard, is the first man since Bjorn Borg in 1980 to win the French Open and Wimbledon titles back to back. Nadal said last night: 'I'm very, very happy.'
Federer said after the match: 'Rafa is a deserving champion, he just played fantastic.'
Federer would have been the only man to win six consecutive Wimbledon titles had he won last night. Nadal's win ended Federer's unbeaten run of 65 matches on grass.
