William Waldegrave has been named as the new Provost of Eton College.
Lord Waldegrave, the 62-year-old life peer and Old Etonian, was a member of the Conservative Government under Margaret Thatcher and John Major, and has been given the Queen’s approval to become chairman of the governing body.
Lord Waldegrave will take up the new post at Eton College in February, when the former head master and current Provost, Sir Eric Anderson, retires.
Lord Waldegrave referred to his predecessor when talking about his new role of Provost of Eton College, saying that ‘His will be a very difficult act to follow. I look forward to doing my best to do justice to his legacy.’
