A house by Robert Adam Architects, who are best known for designing classical new country houses, have been awarded the ‘best luxury home’ award to the developer, Scops Development, at The Herald Property Awards 2009 for a scheme in Kilmacolm, Scotland.
Countrylife.co.uk wrote about the Arts & Crafts style houses, which were designed by Hugh Petter, in March this year when they went on sale.
The scheme is based at the Avenel Estate, the former home of Wallace Forrester who acquired the estate in 1962 and set out to develop lush landscaped gardens and woodland that is now an important local wildlife habitat.
When Mr Forrester died in 2001 he left behind a garden that had taken almost four decades to create and a family determined to preserve his legacy. They engaged Mr Petter to design and build six Arts & Crafts houses each with their own particular architectural character, the first of which was completed this spring.
