Brown's Macaroons

Having arranged to meet Nick Foulkes at Brown's for a quick cup of tea to discuss the monthly luxury columns he writes for us, I strolled into the English Tea Room to discover that there really is so such thing as a ‘quick cup'. I stared in amazement at the beautiful creations on silver salvers and the elegant fine china and silver teapots. Trying my luck I asked if they had a table, I was graciously turned away, but they did suggest tea in the bar or in the restaurant, both exquisite in their own way. Having previously sampled a Bloody Mary in the atmospheric Donovan Bar, I decided to settle myself in their light and airy restaurant, The Albermarle. Having seen the creations being served next door, I asked the friendly waiter if there was any chance of having a plate of their raspberry macaroons. I can only describe them as heavenly.

So with pots of Earl Grey and cream filled macaroons, Nick and I plotted the next few months' worth of the column. Look out for it in the last issue of every month.

Country Life

Country Life is unlike any other magazine: the only glossy weekly on the newsstand and the only magazine that has been guest-edited by HRH The King not once, but twice. It is a celebration of modern rural life and all its diverse joys and pleasures — that was first published in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year. Our eclectic mixture of witty and informative content — from the most up-to-date property news and commentary and a coveted glimpse inside some of the UK's best houses and gardens, to gardening, the arts and interior design, written by experts in their field — still cannot be found in print or online, anywhere else.
