Property description
In February 1937, Giò Ponti, a renowned Milanese architect, arrived in Bordighera at the invitation of Enrico Marchesano, a wealthy client who wanted to build a villa on the western Ligurian coast. The chosen plot is located in Madonna della Ruota, one of the most picturesque areas of Bordighera, about five kilometers from the town center. The area is slightly elevated above sea level, with direct access to the private beach to the south and bordered to the west by Villa Sieger, a classical-style residence built in 1924 and frequented by prominent Italian and international personalities. Looking out over the sea, Ponti imagined a villa designed to make its inhabitants forget all their worries, with a structure where geometric and linear features prevail, large openings and circular windows, where white predominates in contrast to the green of the park and the blue of the sea.

Completed in 1938, Villa Marchesano attracted the attention of Guido Donegani, a prominent industrialist of the time, who fell in love with it and immediately decided to buy it after staying at the nearby Villa Sieger. When he learned that the project was Ponti's work, he contacted him to make some changes and in 1940 the villa was completed and became known as Villa Donegani. Both Villa Marchesano and Villa Donegani still appear in the "Giò Ponti Archives", but it is the same project that today has finally taken the name of Villa Ego, retaining the same charm as then, but with the appropriate updates to maintain the value of excellence that the great architect gave it.

This unique villa covers more than two hectares of land, surrounded by a park with Mediterranean vegetation and enriched with sculptures by renowned artists, including the famous Giorgio De Chirico. The park also includes a seawater swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and a helipad, making it an oasis of luxury and tranquility with direct access to the private beach.

The villa, built with precious materials and elegant finishes, is spread over three levels with a total surface area of 1050 square meters and has been designed to meet the highest aesthetic and functional criteria to satisfy the needs of the most demanding clients. The basement is dedicated to the spa and is equipped with a heated therapeutic pool that can also be used in winter. All rooms have large windows that provide brightness and offer unique panoramic views.

This prestigious property has four independent apartments, a caretaker's annex and a museum designed by one of the leading architects of the 20th century, Kenzo Tange.
