Rocky Lane Farm, nr Henley
An exquisite 16th century country house just three miles from the Royal Regatta course in Henley awaits a discerning commuter

Rocky Lane Farm occupies a peaceful, private location just south of the village of Bix, in the heart of the Chiltern hills. A high brick and flint wall marks the boundaries of this mini-estate and a long private drive leads down to the house and outbuildings. Beautiful views of the grounds and surrounding farmland can be enjoyed from the house, making it hard to believe the property is just three miles from Henley and nine miles from Reading.
Although it is buffered by several large estates, the farm has always been an important estate in its own right. It is reputed to have belonged to Reading Abbey before the Dissolution. The original building dates back to the 15th century, the symmetrical front is typical of Tudor architecture.
Inside the house Tudor style fireplaces and original stone mullioned windows are juxtaposed with stunning examples of contemporary interior design. The drawing room has particularly fine views over the gardens and an elegant new staircase leads to the seven spacious bedrooms.
Outside, the 25 acres of gardens and paddocks are separated by a ha-ha, ensuring uninterrupted views to the north. A large, traditional listed barn has been converted to provide superb space for entertainment and parties. The estate also includes garages, barns, stables and a pretty two-bedroom cottage.

It is a celebration of modern rural life and all its diverse joys and pleasures — that was first published in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year. Our eclectic mixture of witty and informative content — from the most up-to-date property news and commentary and a coveted glimpse inside some of the UK's best houses and gardens, to gardening, the arts and interior design, written by experts in their field — still cannot be found in print or online, anywhere else.
