Henrietta Spencer-Churchill studied Art History in Italy and France before enrolling at the Inchbald School of Design in London for the one year diploma course in 1977. She started her Interior Design business in 1981 having worked for 3 years with Diana Hanbury and Jean Monro.
She specialises in the restoration and refurbishment of period and listed buildings with emphasis paced on conserving their historic value and features whilst bringing them into the 21st century.
Many of her commissions are abroad which involves the challenges of learning about and incorporating local cultures and trends. She also enjoys working on new build homes and the challenge of adding architectural details and character to them.
Having been in the trade for over 40 years Henrietta has extensive knowledge of working with reliable, talented tradesmen and craftspeople from custom plasterwork and joinery to one off pieces of furniture and decorative finishes.
“Every job is a new challenge and learning curve, a bit like a new hand of bridge and I very much embrace working with the clients to ensure the end result reflects their lifestyle and expectations,” says Henrietta.
“Coming very much from an historical and classical background with a love for architecture, my main aim is to respect the style/period of the home and to retain as many original feature as possible whilst making it practical and liveable for todays every changing encounters.”
Our shop in Woodstock, Oxfordshire has been in the same location for 40 years and has an extensive resource library of fabrics, wallpapers, carpets etc as well as antique furniture and accessories for the home. We work with local tradespeople to make all our soft furnishings and custom commissions.
She is the author of 11 books and has carried out many TV appearances and Lectures in the UK and USA where she also has licensing deals in furniture and rugs. Henrietta also has a US company Spencer-Churchill Designs Inc. to facilitate work in the US.
