Set on River Ouse's eastern bank, 14th-century Lendal Tower was part of York's defensive system: a chain linking it to Barker Tower, on the opposite bank, could be pulled up to prevent boats passing. Converted into a home in 2011, the Tower enjoys magnificent views of the city, particularly from the large roof terrace.
