Lassco (020-7394 2100; www.lassco.co.uk) is housed in a ware-house just south of Vauxhall Bridge in SW8 and has a vast collection of stock (and an cafe run by Arabella Boxer’s son, Frank, where you can refuel). It also has an Oxfordshire yard called
Lassco Three Pigeons in Milton Common, which is said to be the first port of call for the world’s top designers and architects when looking for period chimneypieces, doors, antique panelling, old wrought iron, stained glass and flooring (01844 277188).
Retrouvius (020-8960 6060; www.retrouvius.com) is a London-based reclamation house that also incorporates a design practice. It specialises in hardwood worktops, columns, fire-places and decorative pieces, and will source items.
Bygones Architectural Reclamation Yard in Canterbury, Kent, is one of the largest yards in the UK (0800 043 3012; www.bygones.net).
MASCo Salvage (01285 760886; wwwmascosalvage.com) in Stroud, Gloucestershire, deals in fireplaces, doors, garden ornaments and building materials including reclaimed flag-
stones and timbers.
Cheshire Demolition and Excavation Contractors specialises in traditional fireplaces and architectural antiques despite the rather off-putting name (01625 424433; http://cheshiredemolition.co.uk).
Holyrood Architectural Salvage specialises in fireplaces, doors and cast column radiators (www.holyrood-architectural salvage.com; 0131-661 9305).
Cox’s Architectural Salvage Yard (01608 652505; www.coxsarchitectural.co.uk) in More-ton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, has a varied stock.
Viking Reclamation in Doncaster, South Yorkshire (01302 835449; www.reclaimed.co.uk) has reclaimed building materials, oak flooring and salvage.
For reclaimed Cotswolds stone as well as other stone types and bricks, try Winchcombe Reclamation near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire (01242 609564; www.winchcombereclamation.co.uk) or for flagstones, paving, bricks and tiles, you could also try Ronson Reclaim, outside Gloucester (http://ronsonreclaim.com; 01452 387890).
Original House specialises in what it describes as ‘reclaimed interiors’. Operating just off the A40 at the Northleach roundabout in the Cotswolds, it sources pieces from painted bookcases to farmhouse tables and vintage chairs (01451 860281; www.original-house.co.uk).
Antique Church Furnishings (www.churchantiques.com; 01932 252736) in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, is an excellent place to track down original church pews (recommended for benches in hallways) as well as floorboards, shelves, dressers and panelling.
Auldearn Antiques, just east of Nairn in the Highlands, has great fireplaces, stoves and furniture (01667 453087; www.auldearnantiques.co.uk).
Window
For those based in London and the South-East, East Sussex-based Parsons Joinery has a good reputation for repairing and replacing windows on listed buildings (01273 814870; www.parsonsjoinery.com). Other useful companies are The Sash Window & Door Co Ltd in Norwich (01603 414604; www.sashwindowanddoorco.com) and the Mill House Window Workshop (01438 871753; www.sashwindowrepair.com) in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.
Flooring
For oak, parquet, stone and other wood flooring, try Drummonds Architectural and Flooring Ltd in Hindhead, Surrey (www.drummondsflooring.co.uk; 01428 601103). BP Wood Floors in Dagenham is a specialist in the restoration of wooden floorboards (0800 083 0597; www.bp-woodfloors.com).
Roofs
Jordan Heritage Roofing has experience in roofing Georgian, Victorian and Tudor roofs. Based in Derbyshire, the firm is headed up by slater and tiler Richard Jordan, who gained a William Morris Craft Fellow-ship from SPAB in 1999 (www.jordanheritageroofing.co.uk; 01773 522413).
Wrought iron
Chris Topp & Co Ltd (01845 502415; www.christopp.co.uk) is based in North Yorkshire and is the only producer in the world of genuine wrought iron. It has experience in restoring heritage ironwork and specialises in balustrades, staircases, gates, railings and handrails.
