If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes here at Country Life you’re in for a treat this March.
The widely varied world of Country Life is to be the subject of a beautifully filmed, three-part documentary on BBC 2. Land of Hope and Glory: British Country Life is the result of some 12 months’ filming of the magazine’s staff as they travel the country researching features.
Viewers will meet heroic country-house owners and defenders of the landscape, architectural heritage and fieldsports. There are interviews with farmers and Frontispieces, epic train journeys, debates on gentlemanliness and badgers, abortive fishing trips and several naughty dogs. Above all, it’s the countryside that stars.
The documentary is directed by Jane Treays, who made the acclaimed Inside Claridges series, for Spun Gold TV and airs for three weeks running on Friday nights (March 4, 11 and 18) at 9pm on BBC2, and Wednesday nights on BBC Two Scotland at 9pm, on March 9, 16 and 23.
