For dogs around the country, a stroll to the pub has long been rewarded with only a dish of water to slurp and the odd tid-bit, but more human eateries are now offering canines great and small the opportunity to tuck into a meal of their own. From bowls of beefy gravy to honey-dried pig snouts, we round up the best dogs’ dinners—and where they’re being served.

The Blackcock Country Inn and Restaurant
Falstone, Kielder Water, Northumberland NE48 1AA
The three-course doggy menu at this splendid 18th century inn really takes the biscuit; for starters there is beefy gravy and meaty morsels, while main dishes include chicken, ham and pea casserole and tripe mix. Bonios are served up for dessert.

Dogs are also very welcome to stay the night, with towels, water bowls and squeaky toys provided.

The Orange Tree

Dogs are offered the same warm welcome as their owners at this picture-perfect watering hole and restaurant in one of north Norfolk’s most beautiful coastal villages. Next to the human menu on the wall there is a doggy blackboard with a list of ‘Scooby snacks’, which include pigs’ ears, doggy sausage rolls and three different sizes of marrowbone (Note: the large one is very large—almost the size of a terrier’s head).

For the last three years The Orange Tree has been awarded the Good Pub Guide’s ‘Norfolk Dining Pub of the Year’ accolade. It is renowned for its excellent seafood.

King’s Head

‘It’s a dog’s dinner of a menu’ according to the pub’s website, which lists under its ‘Mutt’s menu’ a range of specialities including honey-dried pig’s snout, doggy sausage and a ramekin of gravy bones.
For humans, there is a classic pub menu and a variety of Adnams ales.

Gaucho Hampstead Heath

The Hampstead branch of Gaucho runs a Doggy Sunday brunch party on the first Sunday of every month. Two-legged types are served up a three-course set menu, while their lucky pooches can munch through nutritionist-approved beef and chicken empanadas and are given a goodie bag to take home. £5 per dog is donated to an animal charity. Dogs are not permitted at other times.

The Pond

Tucked away in Leith, on the shores of the Firth of Forth, this stylish pub has a dedicated doggy menu with four different types of treats on it. It also has an impressive range of craft beers and spirits.
