A new book peers into the mysterious nocturnal world of owls, perhaps the most intriguing and human-bird of all. Beautiful Owls: Portraits of Arresting Species by Marianne Taylor has striking photography by Andrew Perris of the world’s owls, from the Australian boobook, with its cartoon-like round eyes and miaowing call, to the comical burrowing owl of North and South America.
There’s the great grey owl of ‘Harry Potter’ fame, the glowering little owl, the boffin-ish spectacled owl and the alien-looking African wood owl, plus many, many more. Beautiful Owls is published this month by Ivy Press (£12.99).
