This wonderful castle offers an eye catching opportunity to buy a little piece of Scottish history
Blackcraig Castle is a romantic Scots property with 30 acres of land just half-an-hour from Perth. Grade B listed, it sits above the banks of the River Ardle. Initially built as a tower house in the 16th century, the property was subsequently extended and developed by a well-known philanthropist and now features classic features including crow-stepped gables, conical towers and turrets, together with the odd gargoyle and stone cannon.
Inside, the period features continue with stone turnpike staircases, astragal sash and case windows, magnificent gothic stone fireplaces, wood panelling, ornate plasterwork and panelled doors.
The first-floor drawing room and the morning room are both remarkable and have double aspects offering far-reaching views, while the dining room on the ground floor has a grand gothic fireplace and access from the butler’s pantry.
The castle has ten bedrooms, serviced by two bathrooms, a shower room and several cloakrooms, and the highest room is the observatory which leads directly out onto the parapet, from where the views are impressive.

Outside, the grounds offer a pretty backdrop to the house with extensive
lawns leading to the walled garden. Beyond and to the south are the two
parkland fields which are interspersed with mature trees; a further
area of woodland lies to the rear of the castle.
A programme of renovation is certainly required for the house but under careful restoration, Blackcraig Castle could be restored to its former glory with the benefit of all modern requirements.
The property is also being sold with around half a mile of single bank fishing on a stretch of the River Ardle. Together, the gardens and grounds come to around 30 acres.
The house lies around nine miles north of Blairgowrie in Perthshire, while Perth itself is around half an hour by car.
