A discreet getaway in the South of France near Cannes
What
The newly renovated and extremely discrete beach hotel nestles in the rocky mountainside of the French Riviera, a gentle stroll from the quaint Théoule-sur-Mer. It is 10km from Cannes and 40km from Nice, and also boasts its own private creek with direct access from the sea.
The History of Tiara Miramar
Only the shell remains of the original thirties beach hotel. The rest is brand spanking new, and has fully earned its 5 stars
Bedrooms or villa
The hotel has 60 rooms with Eastern-inspired furnishings. I would opt for a sea view junior suite but there is also a huge sparkly new villa, with three bedrooms, three terraces, sitting room and kitchen with private access which is for the most private guests. Starting at £5,000 per week with the option of an in-house chef
The restaurant
Moya restaurant specialises in fresh seafood, which guests pick themselves and watch being prepared. Opt for one or many of the original tartare dishes which are fast becoming famous: the prawn tartare was particularly tasty. As the sun goes down there is a DJ playing relaxed music to accompany an impressive wine list. Miraval Rosé, from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s vineyard is on the menu.
Dinner for two from around €160

Quirky fact about the hotel
A secret service agent deployed by her Majesty’s Service to direct the Spindle network in the South of France during World War II, debarked on the private creek guided by the lights of the Miramar. A commemorative plaque remembers the name of the agent, named Peter Churchill (apparently no relation of Winston).
