Full internal restoration with a contemporary twist
Taken over by the current owners in an ‘exhausted state’, the intention with this late 19th century house was to create an interior that spoke of modernity but also allowed the original features to stand out. All the original wood has been sanded back and then painted again ? so that it is clean and clear with just one generation of paint. The new carpentry in the Master Dressing room was specially designed to pick up the original design of the windows of the house. All the original panelling was restored, as was the original detailed plasterwork in the formal rooms. An extension to the kitchen looks as much part of the house as the original. When the coving and skirting needed to be replaced moulds of the originals were taken so that they could be recreated. Yet hiding behind all of this, is the modern features of under floor heating, music systems and network cabling. Not to mention striking colours and modern wallpapers.
