The site includes a large Grade I building, stables, riding school and gatehouse, dating from the 14th to the 19th centuries. This massive restoration project was funded in a highly progressive way; the Trust concerned with the works at the site entered into a development with a historic property developer, which allowed the developer to draw down 125 year leases over specific areas of the property on the condition that specified works were undertaken to secure the exterior fabric of the buildings. In avoiding the need for a large grant from the public sector it is hoped the project may be regarded as a blue print for saving historic properties in need of restoration.
