Joanna Trollope is to be the first of six writers to take part in The Austen Project, which is rewriting Austen’s classics. This controversial and ambitious task, put together by Harper Collins, aims to collate six critically acclaimed authors to transform Austen’s six revered novels into the modern day.

Besides Trollope ‘s Sense and Sensibility, which comes out this Thursday 24th October, The Austen Project has also announced Val McDermid’s reworking of Northanger Abbey to be published in Spring next year followed by Curtis Sittenfield’s Pride and Prejudice in the Autumn.
Joanna Trollope’s long list of successful domestic drama novels attests to Austen’s prevalent influence and power upon authors today.
