The good news for design aficionados is you can own a bespoke modern home that doesn’t look like the neighbour’s by architect David Chipperfield, this year’s winner of Britain’s most prestigious architecture award, the Stirling Prize, presented over the weekend for his work on the Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach am Neckar in Southern Germany.
Built on a relatively small budget of 12 million Euros (£8,296 million), Chipperfield’s building was praised by the panel of judges for its economic efficiency of the ‘simultaneously rich and restrained.’
Now you can pick up a Chipperfield creation on Portugal’s Silver Coast, about 50-minutes drive from Lisbon, at Bom Sucesso Design Resort. Three of four white contemporary Chipperfield houses are for sale from just under £900,000.
Bom Sucesso, which employs a number of architects, is building 601 architecturally-designed homes at low-densities over only 7% of the 150-hectare scheme.
An 18-hole Donald Steele-designed championship golf course overlooking the Obidos lagoon stretches along the length of the resort that also has a hotel and spa.
Out of the 601 properties launched two years ago, only 80 remain, including Chipperfield’s design trio. Three-bed villas at Bom Sucesso start at £345,845 and a full-scale model of the resort can be viewed at Bom Sucesso’s new London office, 61 Brompton Road, Knightsbridge SW3 1DP. It appears the best time to turn up is Wednesday afternoons when port is served.
