Subversive Design. Clare Leighton: Working Life.
An exhibition of the printmaker Clare Leighton, best known for her celebrated book The Farmer’s Year: A Calendar of English Husbandry, first published 80 years ago. Leighton’s work includes over 840 wood engravings, 12 books (both written and illustrated by her), paints, glass and ceramics. GofH: A century of fine silver in Campden: A celebration of the ongoing craft traditions of the Guild of Handicraft. An exhibition highlighting the essential work of Harts Silversmiths Trust, aiming to conserve a valuable collection of drawings donated by the Hart family in Chipping Campden. +100 The London Group Today – In November 1913 Jacob Epstein coined the name for The London Group, Britain’s longest running artists’ group. Frederique Morrel ‘Running Tape’; a collection of fantastical forest creatures – deer, unicorns, foxes and bunnies – shed their hides in exchange for a new skin of vintage tapestries to become one-of-a-kind ‘artefacts’ by French artist Frédérique Morrel. The creations are carefully “re-made” by hand in France using fibreglass taxidermy moulds and textiles. Gary Bunt. Gary Bunt’s sixth exhibition will showcase some of his paintings, which are inspired by the likes of Christopher Wood, Ben Nicholson and Mary Fedden. Visions of India: Derry Moore & Prarthana Modi. Moore is a leading photographer of architectural interiors and an illustrator of books with thirty-seven portraits in the National Portrait Gallery’s collection and Modi is a photographer who captures all her images in black and white, shooting on only film with each print hand printed on silver gelatin archival paper with selenium toning. The exhibition will consist of several photographs taken in India over a period of time, showcasing the diversity of the landscape and architecture of the Indian. Emilio Greco: Sacred and Profane.
One of Italy’s most prominent sculpters’s work on portrait busts and sensual nudes in classical, Etruscan style as well as his religious commissions for Pope John XXIII among others is considered in this exhibition. A Time to Keep Silence: Duncan Bullen – Lutz Krainhoefner. Bullen’s practice centres around drawing reduced to the fundamental activity of placing one mark after another in predetermined and random sequence, Krainhoefner’s work lies in the search for beauty in natural materials which are often neglected. The similarity of the two make them ready for combination and this exhibition will present a series of drawings and ceramics, blurring the lines between nature and the man made in an invitation to stop and pause.
