Building starts this week on the new airport in Murcia, south-east Spain. It’s due for completion in 2010, and expected to be fully operation by the winter of that same year.
The airport is budgeted to cost EUR266 million. Current statistics for the existing Murcia airport (San Javier) show that passenger numbers in recent years have grown 22% from 2006 to 2007.
The new airport will be situated in Corvera, not far from the coastal town of Cartagena and will be directly linked to the several new motorways that have been built across Murcia in recent years as well as to the main A7 north-south motorway.
