Chimney sweeps are making a comeback as the credit crunch forces people to save money on fuel; instead, more people are opening up their fireplaces, says the National Association of Chimney Sweeps (NACS).
Fireplaces and chimneys are being opened up and wood burners are being installed as fuel bills rise.
Martin Glynn, the NACS president said: ‘Fuel prices have got so high people are looking for alternatives … Studies and feedback from members has shown a huge rise in the opening up of fire places and the installation of wood burners and multi fuel stoves.’
NACS has released a leaflet, ‘Heat Your Home Safely’, to combat against poorly installed wood burners and unsafe chimneys, asmore people open up their fireplaces and call in the chimney sweeps to try and beat rising fuel prices.
