Bindweed, ivy and other aggressive plants are forcing traditional wild flowers out of hedgerows, according to the Countryside Survey 2007.
Broad-leaved willowherbs have suffered the greatest decline, according to the Countryside Survey results.
Managed hedgerow lengths decreased by 6.2% overall, while the biodiversity of plants fell by 8% between 1978 and 2007. Survey results indicate that hedgerows are being managed and maintained less.
