It is estimated that Chantry Wood must be well over 1,000 years old. Over the centuries the wood has become populated with 128 species of vascular plants with 42 species of trees (including beech, oak, sweet chestnut and hornbeam) and shrubs and 30 species of birds with coal and marsh tits, chiffchaff and nightingales among their number.
Until the current owner bought the wood, it was largely unmanaged, however, after taking advice , significant investment and improvement has been made with the trees having been thinned out, and the infrastructure improved.
Over recent years, the wood has been incorporated into a local pheasant shoot that would be keen to continue by separate negotiation.
