A lodge with 2,000 acres on Sir Michael and Lady Wigan’s Borrobol Estate, near Kinbrace, Sutherland is being offered for a long lease.
According to owner Sir Michael: ‘Borrobol is a wilderness sporting estate, well loved by its faithfully returning tenants for its magnetic isolation and remote beautry on the rolling moors of the celebrating Flow Country.’
The wildlife on Borrobol includes otters, badgers, rose, common eels, goldcrests, woodpeckers, owls, many waders, merlin and golden eagles.
The owners have recently refurbished Dalcharn, the three-bedroom estate house which is now heated using low-cost geo-thermal energy. It is designed so that two couples can enjoy privacy at either end of the house.
Other cottages, sleeping 4 and 6 can be twinned with Dalcharn on a weekly basis for overspills of larger parties.
Activities included in the lease which are not charged extra include a week’s salmon fishing on the Borrobol beat of the River Helmsdale; there is a rowing boat on the well known trout loch Ascaig (which is also used for ice-skating in winter); tenants are allowed to fish the River Friadh, a tributary of the Helmsdale; grouse and snipe shooting on Dalcharn Hill, and the opportunity to take 2 stags over two days in July or August.
The owners anticipate that two couples and their families might be suited to the tenancy.
