Hampstead Arts & Crafts manor

Wellgarth Manor was originally built as a nursery training school in 1916. The design is believed to have been started by architects Lovegrove and Papworth, and then handed over for completion by Arthur Penty of Parker and Unwin, one of the architects appointed in the design and development of Hampstead Garden Suburb. For many years the building was used as a youth hostel until it became surplus to requirement by the Youth Hostel Association.

Developers Harrison Varma has now sympathetically restored the Arts & Crafts exterior and completely transformed the interior of the building to create contemporary homes. The original house has been converted into four properties, while an additional two new build houses have been built in the grounds. Each benefits from state-of-the-art interiors, secure on-site parking for two cars, externally monitored CCTV and private gardens and terraces.

Simon Barry, partner, Knight Frank residential development (020 7861 5499; www.knightfrank.co.uk), says: ‘Harrison Varma have brought their trade-mark qualities of light-filled space and amazing technology to their latest project. You will find only the best possible materials and highest standards of workmanship with the added benefits of security and privacy.’
