The National Trust has launched an iPhone app that helps people find the nearest Trust place to visit. It’s downloadable for free at http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/national-trust/id360792792?mt=8
The app will give information about the Trust’s hundreds of properties and coast and countryside locations, such as opening times, car parking and directions.
It will suggest the nearest Trust location, using the smart technology in the iPhone and the iPod touch, and will also suggest other destinations for picnic spots, en-route stop-offs and further trips.
Philip Ludgate, head of digital media at the National Trust, said: ‘I’ve always been amazed by the fact that, wherever you are in the country, you’re never more than 40 minutes away from a place looked after by the Trust.
‘The app is the perfect way to reach people who might never have come to the Trust before, or who might not realise the breadth of places in our care.
‘Over the next weekend, we’re opening the doors of hundreds of our places for free through our Bonus Time weekend, and there’s no better way to find places near you than by using the new app.’
The Trust app is already in the top five travel apps. Users can post their thoughts via the Trust’s Facebook or Twitter pages, or at the Uservoice forum.
