Situated on the western edge of Morecambe Bay and just on the southern edge of the Lake District, the Aldingham Estate consists of approximately 622 acres of let agricultural land, three farmhouses, six cottages and a commercial equestrian centre.
Giles Wordsworth of sales agents Smiths Gore explains: ‘As a let rural portfolio, the Aldingham Estate with the combination of residential, agricultural and commercial properties including some traditional buildings which may be suitable for further development, is an ideal rural property investment for both small and large investors. Not to mention the fact that it is in a stunning location.’
Nick Harper, of The Crown Estate’s Rural Estate, adds: ‘We regard this as a unique Estate and believe its diversity and location will appeal to the current market. The sale proceeds will be reinvested in the wider portfolio of the Crown Estate.’
The majority of The Crown Estate’s current ownership in Cumbria was a result of the forfeiture to the Crown following the attainder of Henry Grey, Duke of Suffolk in 1554, together with the subsequent purchase of the rights under copyhold of the Manor.
