Pieces of Olympic history will be auctioned next month when sculptures from the venues are sold at Summers Place Auctions, Billingshurst, Sussex, on October 23 (www.summersplaceauctions.com). Nic Fiddian-Green’s 9ft-high, horse-head sculpture, Still Water (estimated at £80,000-£120,000), was on display at Greenwich Park, where the Olympic equestrian events were held.

There are also has eight sculptures that were displayed at the Olympic Park in Stratford, including Backflip, Wilfrid Pritchard’s bronze of a skeleton on a gymnast’s horse (£15,000-£20,000), David Cooke’s giant Galapagos turtle (£10,000-£15,000, right) and Victorian sculptor William Theed’s marble figure of Prometheus, which was shown in the Great Exhibition of 1951 (£20,000-£40,000).
