Grade II* listed country house near Southwold
Picture postcard gardens
Wenhaston Grange is a very handsome listed country house thought to date back to the 16th century and with an early 18th century Queen Anne brick façade, located just outside Halesworth in Suffolk.
The property offers excellent ceiling heights and classic proportions; accommodation includes reception rooms well-suited to entertaining including the attractive drawing room which features 18th century panelling, window seats, oak doors out to the gardens and an open fireplace. Other reception rooms include the dining room, sitting room and study.
The kitchen lies at the heart of the house, and features a walk-in pantry while a snug sitting room at the back offers a chance to relax away from the more formal rooms, with an open fireplace and doors out to the gardens.
Bedroom accommodation on the first floor comprises four large bedrooms and a washroom, and two bathrooms; the master suite has a walk-through dressing area. The second floor has three further bedrooms and two shower rooms.
Outside to the north east lies the coach house, which houses garaging and a self-contained apartment. The party barn fronts the heated, walled swimming pool and steam room, while some useful brick outbuildings lie beyond.
The gardens are a huge feature: a stone terrace fronts the elevation with pathways featuring rose and espalier-trained archways, which lead to a succession of beech-hedged garden rooms with their own planting schemes.
There is a also productive fruit and vegetable garden and a more informal flower-cutting garden with a greenhouse and a hard tennis court beyond.
